Summer Food Service Program

More than 1 million of Florida’s children could go hungry during the summer while school is out. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is partnering with 2-1-1 Big Bend and other organizations to feed more children through its Summer BreakSpot nutrition program. The Summer BreakSpot program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and is run in local communities by qualifying nonprofit organizations.  Summer BreakSpot fills the nutrition gap during the summer by serving meals to children 18 years and younger so they can return to school healthy, happy and ready to learn. To find existing Summer BreakSpot sites call 2-1-1 or visit http://www.summerfoodflorida.org/.

In May 2016 President of 2-1-1 Big Bend, Randy Nicklaus, accepted the Roger Kaufman Exemplary Community Agency Award for meeting needs assessment and quality of life reporting at the annual United Partners for Human Services conference.   2016 Kaufman Award
